Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ 5x7 Headlight Adapter

These are 5x7 adapter housings that allows the stock headlights from a Jeep Cherokee XJ or Wrangler YJ to be mounted in a Grand Cherokee ZJ (1993-1998).  This can either be used with the stock XJ bulbs or aftermarket LED bulbs that fit Jeep XJ applications.

This is a two piece adapter that holds the headlight in the stock style of the XJ/YJ, but mounts using the ZJ factory mounting points and maintains factory adjust-ability.  The two halves are held together by (4) M3 hex head bolts with captured nuts.  No glue required.

Assembly and Install:

The 5x7 light is sandwiched between the front and back pieces, which are held together with the 4 bolts and square nuts.  There is an intentional gap between the front and back pieces that sandwich the 5x7.  This allows for a variety of flange widths for the 5x7 lights.  DO NOT TRY TO CLOSE THE GAP! This will crack the housing.

I recommend removing the side and lower light assemblies before installing these.  The distance between mounting points in the front to back direction is not the same as the factory housings and will require changes to all three adjuster posts.  To achieve a flush fit with the lower and side housings, the lower outside post will need to be run in to shorten it up.  This requires removing the post from the header panel.

The combination of adapters and 5x7 lights is significantly heavier than the stock housing and bulb.  These adapters have proven acceptable for street use, but heavy off-road use may cause them to come loose from the adjuster posts. Additional supports may be required for off-road (not included).
